Mini Update

I am back in the hospital doing the Chemotherapy again. We started on the 14th of February but as you might know I had some bad reactions so it has required some additional time to get the proper medication into my system.

I won't go into the details later I am at the Sunnyside Hospital with the IV in my arm as I type. Everything seems to be doing Okay for now. I am very tired but am letting my fingers do the walking on the keyboard.

Hope everyone is doing great and I appreciate all of the calls and good thoughts and prayers.

Well I am having some problem trying to Post on the BlogI had to import the pictures from Picassa and the darn thing won't let me do many pictures into the same page. Also when I attempt to "Publish Post" I get a Javascript:void (0) message and it doesn't do anything. I am saving the draft then using another computer to post the thing. Itr will be in three seperate posts the last being a few pictures of Cole which I liked.I hope to figure this out. This is a new Windows 7 Computer and I am convinced it is some software glitch but who knows for sure.

Thats it of now.

November Days Relaxing In The Hospital

Well I suppose I should let those of you who are aware of my condition know what is going on. Oh don't get excited I'm actually doing fine. I just had a little "hic-cup" and spent some days in the hospital. It seems that after a a couple of weeks not feeling particularly well one evening Rosy made me go to urgent care.

When we arrived at the hospital we found that they only had urgent care on the weekends. Rosy then marched me over to the Emergency doors and they directed me to a small and somewhat chilly room where I was asked to lay down on a gurney/bed. They did all of the vital stuff, pulse, blood pressure, temperature etc, asked my name and birthday, assumed I must be me and called the Doc!

The doctor came and examined me and referred me to another doctor who came and examined me for the second time/opinion. Each requiring an exact copy of the symptoms. Basically it ended up that we explained to each person with whom we came in contact. I think we were pretty clear, and I assumed as did Rosy that as they wrote down everything we told them and each of them and would pass on the information so others would know why I was there. Each medical person was nice, polite and seemed efficient but must have kept the information to themselves. Or then again perhaps it was a test of my story? Never-the-less I told my story so many times I am not about to repeat it here. Since I am writing this you then must assume I am doing fine, just fine!

I ended up staying several days. I had tubes in my arm and was given copious amounts of antibiotics to kill the infection in my body. We didn't actually kill it completely but got things to the point that I could come home and am finishing up with 12 days of oral medication twice a day.

Now for the sympathy request: While I am taking this medication I CANNOT HAVE DAIRY PRODUCTS, like ICE CREAM, or MILK SHAKES. This is 4 hours before the medication and 2 hours after I have taken it. If you do the math, each of the two times a day eliminate a total of 12 hours without Dairy.

This leaves me 12 hours of the day which I can have those items, I work at least 8 hours and sleep for 5 hours and am in route either to or from work 1 hour. Doing personal items such as brushing teeth, dressing doing my laundry, going to the bathroom, picking up my things and spending a little time with Rosy takes another 3 hours or so. Well, you see I am at a negative available time situation. Poor Me! (How about an Awwww, or Ohhhh!)

Anyway that being said, I am now doing much better but not completely back to whatever my normal is. I have a slight cough and some of my quirks are missing but as far as I can tell am functioning Okay!

Here is a little video I did near the end of my hospital stay. I was doing much better and was able to work the phone video. Since I did it on phone, I must apologise for the quality of the production and the "Star" is obviously not wearing makeup. The lighting is a bit off but you'll get the idea.

October Update

Well For those of you that have been on pins and needles waiting to see the Halloween pictures, Here they are. First however let me remind you that one picture says a thousand words or something like that. Also quality instead of quantity and something is sometimes better than nothing, keep those things in mind as you meander thru this months update.

By the way, I realize it is 20 days into the next month but I was sick, and busy, and my computer gave me some problems and I had to take a business trip and it's been raining a lot and I was wet and didn't want to work on the computer with water dripping form my head. Hey! it coulda shorted out the keyboard.

I was working at home that evening but I answered the door and handed out the candy while Rosy snapped these photos.Rosy has a sister named Bertha who thinks she is a witch but Rosy turns into a witch whenever she wears her hat, and that actually occurs frequently.

The First Baby Shower

So maybe it isn't the very first baby shower ever, but the first for our little family, We were anxious to have a baby shower so Natalie agreed that she would be the one to get pregnant and we could do the baby shower for her. She is such a giving young lady. Always trying to please. Yep always trying to keep everyone happy and do whatever she can to help. What a gal!

Table is about ready and as you can see I have been busy getting things ready, whew am I tired!

This is a "Diaper" cake I made. It looks very cute and very nice but it seemed very dry when eating it.

The "Party ladies" are fueling up for a long night of fun.

Dinner and talking to start. Natalie has been away in New Mexico for some time and there must have been much information to share.

Natalie is learning how to dress the baby. It is a family custom that we never actually look at the baby unless the baby has cloths on. Or perhaps it is a contest and fun game for Natalie.

Sam's Gone!

So last Wednesday Sam left for a year to study in Spain. It probably will be a great trip for her and hopefully she will actually learn some new things.
I'm pretty sure she was ready for Spain but who really knows if Spain is ready for Samantha. Time will tell.

Her we are at the Airport Coffee House, That's me in the white sweatshirt. Mr Personality as I have affectionately come to be know by Sam and the rest of the family. You can see the excitement in my face, Can't you?

Sam's dad was in charge and did an admirable job of coordinating things and all went well except I didn't get anything to drink, no water, soda, coffee or beer, nope not a thing. But don't worry about me I will just get a drink from the public drinking fountain, yep that will do it!

Trip South

Last week I made a trip to Warm Springs Oregon. It was warm but that isn't the point. The Warm Springs Indian Tribe have many people there. I met one young lady named Arlissa. She gave me directions for a more scenic ride home.
Thanks to Arlissa I saw a beautiful part of her home and the area around Warm Springs.

I didn't stop soon enough and actually drove by other beautiful areas, but this is where I first decided to stop and take pictures.

This looks like a structure which may have been built by someone. It is a very impressive stone monolith of sorts.

This cave has an interesting phenomenon attached. I was told that if you look closely to the area above the cave there is what appears to be an Eagle Head shape in the rocks. If you use your imagination and look carefully you will see it.

Here is a second picture for you to examine to see of you can see it.

I was wondering if the Hole In The Rock Gang ever came here?

I thought I saw a "Jack-a-Lope" over there?

I don't know what this. I will need to do some research and get back to you with some explanations. Better yet when I go back later next week I will find out about the area and let you know.

A Motorcycle Gang you better not cross!

If you read the previous post you know that I was on a business trip for a few days and just returned Saturday. If you didn't read it you can skip the part about the business trip and just read about the Wood Peckers.

While on the business trip I ran into a Wild Motorcycle Gang of Bears. I was able to avoid problems and I did take some pictures to share with you so you can watch out for them too. Be sure to click on the pictures and then click again to really enlarge them as there is lots of interestings things on these Motorcycle Wild Bunch Bear Bikers and their Bikes.

I found this spot to sit and do some work. I'm not saying the Comfort Inn wasn't nice but this was better.

I was told that a Salmon was caught in this stream not far from here. Pretty isn't it?

Here they are. You must watch out. There are a lot of them.

They came in all sizes and shapes and many different costumes.

Fortunately for me there was a Policeman to keep things under control.

I saw that they had their own "witch Doctor" I think?

They were pretty big guys and had fancy Bikes.

Although this guy doesn't look like he fits in he had a fish and probably is the gangs cook.

I suppose the Pig is their mascot.

They at least seem to be "Green" Biker Dudes.

Actually I would like to go for a ride in this side car.

I think this might just be the "Leader of the Pack".

I think I have seen this one before???

Lastest UpDate For Red Headed Wood Peckers

I was on a trip for a few days. Before I left I watched the baby Wood Pecker creep further and further out of the hole in the tree. His home actually. He didn't seem to be in any danger but he did spend a lot of time looking in all directions. What a wonderful thing it must have been taking in the sounds and sights for the first time. I don't know what wood peckers think about and I don't know what his impressions were of the small piece of the world around his Dead Tree Home.
I arrived back to our home late Saturday night. I have watched the tree most of the day and there is no activity. I suppose he is off testing his wings and checking out the new world he is now a part of.
I wonder where he will end up? If you hear the rat-a-tat sound of a woodpecker somewhere near your home and you can see it chipping away look carefully to see if it the Little Red Headed Baby Woodpecker from behind our home. Let me know.
I have missed seeing the activity around the tree. I will miss watching the Mom and Dad as they kept the baby nourished and safe. I am sad that I didn't see him take his first flight!

Finally a baby Appears

The Baby poked his little head out on Monday. I may have missed him/her if there was an earlier viewing but I saw for the first time the Purple Headed Baby. It's plumage is purple and will eventually turn red like his parents. He seemed big to me when I first saw his head in the hole but when I have seen him next to the parent he is noticeably smaller. He is cute. I will try and get better pictures and up load then for you to see.
I will too use the Video and tripod to get better video. I only had a minute and got these with what ever telescope options these little camera's have.

Natalie has the capability of inhaling much air, Hot Air and then expelling it in such a way as to extinguish burning candles. She does this with a minimum of "spittle" attaching it's self to the cake and surrounding table, chairs and people.

Non Sailing Adventure

Saturday was a very nice day. After what has seemed like 40 days of rain we had some sunshine and warm weather. Rosy and Beretha came to the boat with me and hung out eating candy, hard boiled eggs and drinking diet pepsi. Exciting stuff wouldn't you say!
El sabado fue un bonito dia. Despues de 40 dias de lluvia tenemos sol y clima caliente. Rosy y Bertha vinieron al barco conmigo y comieron dulces, huevos duros y pepsi. Cuanta diversion no crees.

It was nice for them to come and spend some time with me.
I know the pictures aren't great because I used my cell phone to take them but at least you can see how the day looked.

Fue bonito para ellas venir y pasar un rato conmigo.

Las fotos no son muy buenas pues las tome con el celular, pero al menos pueden ver como se veia.

I cleaned the boat and am preparing to take it out for a mini Cruise perhaps next week weather depending.

Maybe Baby

Well it seems that there is some additional activity in the tree. I spend way too much time with binoculars and Telephoto lens and now my Meade telescope trying to see deep inside the hole in the tree.
I have read that the red headed Woodpecker makes a nest hole inside about 6 inches in diameter and eleven inches tall. I have figured that the base of the nest is below the hole because I can see (sometimes) the back of the mama bird as she rests inside. I just cannot seem to see little peckers but I think they are only a couple of days old at the most.
There is more activity with the Mama and Daddy coming and going and I have observed some "maintenance" like throwing things out of the hole.
I am incredibly anxious to see these young birds. As I noted in my last post I have had to shoot a couple of times at squirrels who appeared to threaten the Mom and eggs. They seem to have lost interest or perhaps got my message. I don't count on the latter they probably just said the heck with it since the hole is small.
I hope to have some baby pictures soon. Stand by!

Little Pecker

I have a update today, May 11, 2010 Over the weekend I observed that the woodpecker is spending almost all of the time in the tree. She looks out from time to time with her little head just poking out of the hole. I am confident that there are little woodpecker eggs in there and she is keeping them warm until they hatch. Frankly I am anxious and excited and will try to get pictures of the babes when they finally appear.
As a side note I must tell you that I needed to shoot at two squirrels that were attempting to get into the hole. I didn't kill them only frightened them.
I know it is a natural thing that happens in the bigger picture that the squirrels might get and kill the babies but I have appointed myself as their protector (when I am around). I would hate to see anything happen to any of the little red headed wood peckers.

I noticed that last Sunday a little red headed woodpecker was working on a dead tree on the land behind our home. The tree is about 50 yards from our house and I used a telephoto camera lens to get these shots. He was busy pecking out a little hole as you can see.
El domingo pasado note la cabecita roja de un apjarito carpintero trabajando en el arbol muerto que esta detras de nuestra propiedad. El arbol esta como a 50 pies de nuestar casa y use un telefoto para tomar estas fotos. El estaba ocupado picando un hoyo chiquito como pueden ver.

It is not finished yet but today April 30, after six days of working he has reached the point where he can slip into the hole and almost completely disappear. He is so darn cute.
Aun no lo ha terminado hoy 30 de abril, despues de trabajar por seis dias casi puede desaparecer en el hoyito. Es muy chistoso.

I am amazed at his tenacity, he just keeps pecking away all day every day. The squirrels came and frightened him away once that I know of but he continues to show up and peck away. Even in the rain and hail we have had recently he continues to work on the hole. He gets inside the hole and they when re-appears outside he tosses the chips in his mouth aside. There are some on a slight ledge of bark directly below where his hole is.
If you look close you can see it.
Es muy tenaz, continua picoteando todo el dia. Las ardillas lo espanantan pero el regresa y continua trabajando. Aunque llueva o granice el sigue trabajando. El pone pedazos de madera con su pico.

How exciting this is, I am not sure but I have really liked watching the little fellow and so I am including these pictures for you to see as well.

Our Trip To Xalapa March Spring Break

We have just returned from a trip to Xalapa, and Veracruz Mexico. We saw most of Rosy's family, one sister Elisa is in Merida and that is far south of where we were. Unfortunately Rosy was very sick for the entire time we were there. In addition to that the weather from Oregon followed us so we had rain and cold days every day we were trying to get some sun. Our visit to Veracruz was miserable heavy wind and rain.
We did spend a little time with Diego so that made things fun. Thanks Diego!
Vimos a casi toda la familia se Rosy pues Elisa una de las hermanas vive en Merida ciudad mas al sureste de donde estuvimos. Desafortunadamente Rosy estuvo enferma todo el tiempo que estuvimos ahi. Ademas, el clima de Oregon nos persiguio pues tuvimos lluvia y frio todos los dias y nosotros queriamos tener algo de sol. Nuestra visita a Veracruz fue miserable de lluvia y norte. Pasamos muy poco tiempo con Diego pero eso hizo que todo fuera mas divertido. Gracias Diego!

We stopped to take a photo shot at a corner showing a statue made for the Mexican Electric Company. Also to get some cough medicine for Rosy.

After dinner Monchine took me on a tour of the "gallos" Fighting Chickens. Some were beautiful. I have never seen one of the fights but I did learn a lot and admire the dedication shown to the guys and how they train and condition the roosters.

Well here it is February 2010 and I am not sure why I spend so much time wondering where the time has gone. Perhaps I should just enjoy the moment.

I am preparing for Valentine Day. I prepare by buying copious amounts of candy. Chocolate, Marshmallow Bunnies, Chicks and whatever. I like gum drops and chocolate covered raisins too. One of the things I don't do is give candy as a Valentine gift. Nope! One can't chance giving candy to someone who might not share with one, can one?

Later after the 14th I will share some pictures with anyone who might stop by.

By the way I really enjoy seeing where people are from after they visit my blog. I don't know why Alaska people have not visited my blog but perhaps one day.

I am going to include a section of the blog in Spanish for some of the family that sees this and only speak Spanish. Look for the addition of the Spanish section coming soon to this blog.

To my daughters both of whom had many hours of example setting and help for them to learn the responsibility of following up with Blogging, what the heck is taking you two so long to update your Blogs? Christmas in June isn't so unusual as we don't send presents to out of state family members until about then but that blog has been there since 2004 or 2005 I think? Then Teri and Shawn did get their point across and I know that #5 is a lucky number. But, How about an old Grandfather, Father sitting out here whose only enjoyment in life is looking at his daughters blogs. I get no exercise, not a bit of fun movies, dinner out, trips to Mexico, Jamaica, Hawaii or anywhere else. I just sit at my computer and anxiously look for the updates on my daughters blogs. Can you imagine how I must feel.

Well perhaps this will inspire some creative juice to flow out to the One Big Happy Family In Utah and Three Kids Busy Blogs.

Elisa Returns to Mexico

Elisa, Rosy's Sister spent two weeks with us. She celebrated Christmas then her Birthday 26th and then New Year's Eve with us at a party. I have a few pictures at the party I will add later and a few from the airport when she left.

2009 Christmas at the White House

Christmas turned out to be a nice day for everyone. We got up early for no particular reason and took a little time to relax before Rosy cooked dinner. I know I know you are wondering if I errored in the statement that says "Rosy cooked dinner". Well she did and with only a little help from the rest of us. I cooked potatoes, Honey Baked Cooked the Ham, CostCo did the Apple Pie, I did the Pana Cotta, Elisa did the salad, Natalie and Samantha set the table, Elisa cut and plated the cheese and crackers and did the cereal mix for munching and Natalie did the Costa Rican Tamales, but other than that it was all Rosy. She opened the chips as well and poured them into a large bowl too. Everything turned out terrific.

Rosy and Elisa did a lot of shopping and have done a lost since Christmas. It's what they do, They are experts and do it whenever they get the chance.

The pictures are just a few from the day of Christmas except the first two which were taken when Rosy and Elisa returned from shopping.

Thanksiving Pictures 2009

I know there are a lot of pictures but perhaps you'll see someone you know or someone you'd like to know.
We had a very nice Thanksgiving and what a great group. If your picture isn't here don't fret, I'll do some add on pictures as time permits.
Rosy G. Did an awesome job with the Turkey once again. It seems that it has become her "regular Job" and we all appreciate the hard work and the great "eating" Turkey she comes to the White House Annual Thanksgiving Family and Extended Family Dining Experience.
This year Joyce H. made a super Dressing. She brought a lot but it was worth every two or three pounds I ate. I think it will go into the books as a first place although we had no ribbons, she'd have won a Blue for sure.

Rosy dressed in her "Thanksgiving" Costume. It was cute and Paul was cheered up when he saw it.

Jerry on the other hand was so very busy setting things up that he may have actually missed the costume.

This video is a little out focus. The video camera was on the landing and just left to pick up what ever happened with no real care about the quality? We begin every Thanksgivins going around the table telling what it is that we are thankful for. Rosy had a touching statement and I thought it might be nice to include it here. Paul made the transition to Joyce easy> It might be a little difficult to hear but you can do it, just "pay attention"

Sunday at the Grill

Our small extended family group met at the Grill on Sunday, the last days of the Farmer's Market and enjoyed some time together and Eggs Benedict, Biscuits and Gravy and some burgers, fries Tuna Sandwiches and who knows what else.
It was a nice day with good friends.

We had the group grow and shrink based on who was outside walking around but these professionals never moved until the wine and bloody Mary's, Ramos Fizz, and Champagne was gone. We drink a lot don't we!

Even I joined in for a glass of wine.

I am not sure but I think That Rosy and Paul are trying to rest?

Oh No they are just looking cozy for the picture taking.

Aunt Toni Made us laugh a lot. If we didn't laugh she would hit us with a stick!

Birthday Party

Although my birthday was Friday Rosy thought it would be a good idea to have a little party on Saturday. She also thought it would be a good idea to include Paul Green our friend as his birthday is next Wednesday. As anyone knows it is easier to have one party than two?????
We had a lot of food, as usual and plenty to drink, Wine, Beer, Soda Pop, OJ, Cranberry Juice and of course water. Rosy had food spread all over the house on nearly every surface. One only needed to turn and there would be food it all looked great.

This is just one of the tables of food. The dining room was a "Food Station", it makes perfect sense.

Here are some of the fine folks who attended. The are sitting around on the deck getting to know one another.

Jeremy, Paul, me of Course and Norberto. By the way Norberto helped with the food even though he was suppose to be a guest. I don't know what Rosy would have done with out him. Kudos to Nor!!!!

Brianne and I spent a little time talking she and I have a lot in common. We're both members of the opposite sex, she likes to eat I like to cook, she likes to hang out with me I like to be me. The list could go on but I've much to cover here and only a little time to do it.

Finally I get to spend a little time with Rosy. But she is blurry only the chandelier is in focus. Perhaps I have had a little too much wine?

So Dave was a good guy to stay in touch with, he knows where all the food plates were.

Paul and I did a toast or two sometime during the evening.

Paul really knows how to toast with a fine glass of wine. and by the way we drank the following, Opus 1997, Opus 1999, Martin Estate Cab 2005, Spago Argento Prosecco, Robert Mondavi Reserve Cab 1995 and 1997, Kissing Bridge Shiraz 2001, Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir 2006, Rocca Di Montegrossi Chianti Classico 2001, Bernardus Marinus 2003, Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages 2004 (3 bottles), Dominus 1998, and 1999, Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon 1996 and we started with a Caymus Special Select Cabernet sauvignon 1999.I would remind you that we are professionals and you should never try consuming so much wine at home, leave the consumption of these kinds of wine to us.

So anyway, Samantha stopped by and said hello here she is with Barbara.

Karen brought a camera and we look forward to seeing her pictures. We have only a few because we forgot to take pictures. Rosy remembered to get the camera after a couple of hours. We like the pictures we have though and we hope you like them too.

Day Sail

Here are some pictures of Rosy and my Sailing day on the Columbia River. I am not as fond of river sailing as ocean sailing. Lots of "Back and Forth:, "Back and Forth", "Back and Forth".

Fortunately the scenery was pleasant several other boats and people were on the river doing whatever they do.

Here we are tied at the Hotel where we stayed. It was about 5 miles from the dock where we launched the boat.

First we'll do a little recreational sailing up the river. Going up stream will take longer and requires much more work that "sailing" down stream. Think about it!

Ok She's ready to cast off. She already cast off here robe thingy. Rosy likes the sun.

Rosy likes to drive. In case you are wondering she also provides direction when she is not at the tiller. Always trying to keep me going in the right direction.

She does take a break from time to time and likes to get Sun and feel the wind in her hair.

Calm water but is is moving at a rapid rate. It meant a lot of tacking.

Still under control. Me, well I'm just sitting around taking pictures.

Sunday at the Grill

Sunday we opened the Patio for Wine, Margaritas, Beer, Water Soda Pop and Food. The Sunday market was nearly in full swing and although the band didn't show (who knows why) we cranked up the music from the patio speakers and things went well, everyone seemed to be having a pretty good time. Several were dancing to the music and singing with the 50's and 60's songs.

Stephanie and Terri worked the wine and Beer tent.

Later in the day some of the folks held out and enjoyed the heat. Rosy, Nancy, Paul, Jeff and Lindsey are here. You have to figure who is who and which is which. It's a test, It's a contest.

Zoo La La

Saturday Night July 18, 2009 we participated in another Zoo La La event.
It is the main fund raiser for the Portland Zoo and we have been helping out
for about 5 or 6 years.
We set up our booth (Booth #1) and give samples of one of the items from the restaurant menu. We served a Chinese Chicken Salad, the most popular item on our menu and has been the most popular item at the event.
This year in addition to Rosy and me there was Sara, 5th year for Sara, Shannon 2nd year for Shannon and Jackie. It is Jackie's first year so she did most of the work since she didn't know any better. That's just how it is.
We served about 650 salads and everyone had a good time.

The Zoo provides the Booth and Sign, Ice, Water Plates and Forks or Spoons. We provide Labor and food.

Rosy always liked standing on chairs.

Everyone worked hard including the security guards and other Zoo folks who seemed to hang around our booth. Most of them were guys. Hmmmmmm!

Sometimes Rosy decided not to allow some people to have a salad. We don't why she just did?

Hey I was just kidding.

When ever possible we tried to serve from in front of the booth.

Some of the Zoo people came for our salad. They told us that more people liked our salad than anything else from the other restaurants.

Near the end of the evening the band who were located directly behind us provided enough sound and music that Sara and Rosy spent about an hour dancing. First at the booth then on the dance floor. Don't worry though Jackie stayed and did the work.

My Neighbor Isn't going to like July 4, 2009

This morning July 4, 2009, I was sitting at the little table near the waterfall and pond having a cup of coffee and working on my computer doing some menu changes and answering e-mails and deleting some of the hundreds of spam messages which show up from day to day.

I had been outside for about 45 minutes when I heard some trucks and men yelling at one another from the front of my house. I assumed it was my neighbor to the right having some workers here to work in their back yard, They are doing some deck work and perhaps a pond of their own. I thought it might be a cement truck because I could hear the rumbling from the engine of the truck.
It was 7:20 AM as I checked on my computer because I thought how inconsiderate to begin working so early and possibly wake people from their sleep.
I heard the activity for about 10 minutes and really expected to see the workmen appear to the back side of my neighbors home but since there is foliage and a fence I thought I wouldn't see them but when I was aware they were in the back yard I could tell to them to be a little quite at least for the next hour or so.

Rosy came out onto the deck and hollered to me that the home across the street was on fire.
I went in and got my camera and took some pictures.

Fortunately Steve (Neighbor {yes yet another Steve}) and his family were not in the house.

It is 10:20 AM and they (the firemen) are still working there.
The News people have been and interviewed neighbors, We avoided this activity as I can only imagine how much of a "dork" I would appear being interviewed by the TV people. I have always thought it would be better to get my 15 minutes of fame some other way.

So I suppose you were wondering about Rosy's graduation and the "Hooding" and receiving her Masters Degree. Well She did it and everyone is proud that she did so well. I have some pictures I took. Steve was kind enough to get seats that were a little less than 100 yards from the "action". We got there about 45 minutes before the festivities began. Lucky for us we had hard wooden seats and fortunately there was no air conditioning. Lucky too it was hot outside so when the crowds came in the humidity and temperature were something for us to remember.

I had a lens with me that allowed me to use the full extension of power zoom and actually I got some pictures that I feel comfortable sharing with you.

Once Natalie arrived the show could start.

And come in they did. Like a bunch of "cucaracha"s running all over the place looking for seats and trying to spot family members and friends.

Trip To the Winery

Last Sunday we took the service crew (Servers and Bartenders) to the Sokol Blosser Winery for a day of fun and wine education. Our host "Lee" did a wonderful job entertaining and touring the group. For many it was the first time they had visited an actual winery and vineyard. Click on the pictures to see a larger picture.

Yesterday (Sunday I came downstairs and as I was going into the kitchen I looked out of the Dining room Window and saw what a beautiful day it was. There was so much green. It makes for a exciting afternoon and if you do like we did, you can finish it off with a movie. Actually two movies. We watch one movie and then we "sneak" into another movie. We don't worry because I am old and look old and the Movie Show Police are watching the "Kids" to be sure they don't sneak into a second or even third (which we have done) movie. Who would suspect us?????

Even with the senior citizen discount movies are not inexpensive.

Then you add the cost of a large popcorn, a hot dog, two large diet soda's, two kinds of candy and of course the obligatory bon bons the movie can hit about $500.00 for the two of us. Perhaps less I really didn't add it up I just estimated. Hot dog $7.95, Popcorn $11.00 etc etc etc!

I can't remember what movie we saw. It isn't important as we just watch the movie to "Escape" the hustle bustle world.

The other trip was to Puerta Vallarta Mexico. I wouldn't think you would have as much interest about that so I won't go into that trip right now. After going through the pictures and removing some lines and added weight and making the teeth "more" white and maybe doing a little photo shop work I will post a few for you to see.

I have been a little negligent about updating my blog. I have been sleeping a lot and with the extra drinking sobering up has been tough. Once I actually remember getting to the kitchen for a sandwich but I don't actually remember if I ate one or not???

Ok, Ok so that is not the truth. I have been busy though and lots going on.

Yesterday was Valentines day and although I worked a lot (it is our busiest day of the year) I did get to sit down with Rosy for dinner. We were joined by Paul and Rosy and their kids. It was a very nice evening.

We Arrive Home!

Rosy received a bunch of Heart Cards, and a purse and she wore a special outfit for me. I took some pictures when we got home and I am sharring them with you. She will probably be surprised that I put them on the blog but Hey what the heck.

We enjoyed our dinner, a bottle of really nice wine and a lot of chocolate candy. A LOT OF CHOCOLATE CANDY!

Today Sunday we had a Latte and a chocolate croissant at a little french bakery down at the waterfront at Lake Oswego.

I am home supposed to be working but just haven't been able to get started. Sometime later I'll get busy,

This is how I spent my Christmas, out on the deck with shovel clearing the deck of snow. Everyone else was inside with food, drink and enjoying each other's company while I was outside working by myself until the deck was clear. It's ok with me though I got to wear my new Christmas socks!

An update for you

Well I made it home on Christmas Eve. I was trapped in Hillsboro for several days and we weren't sure if we would be able to get togetherfor Christmas. As it turned out a local store got a

supply of snow chains and I was able to dig my car out of the snow (with a small piece of wood and a sheet tray from the restaurant) and make my way carefully to that store and purchase the chains. I then made it home.

The house across the street looks cool!

So as it turned out everyone was able to get here.

By the way Natalie also was stranded and after her dad shoveled for two hours they were able to move her car into the curb where it sits to this very minute waiting for the thaw.

Sam is a snow shoveling expert now. She actually shoveled snow. Actually for about ten minutes. Can you believe it?

So the reason I show these pictures for you to see is, as you know, I am a Southern California kind of guy. This Oregon snow storm is unusual but I didn't like it too much. I prefer the beach in Jamaica, or Hawaii, or Cabo. Just so you know.

I am stranded in Hillsboro Oregon and staying at the Holiday Inn Express. I had a nice breakfast of bacon, cereal and two cups of coffee (1/2 & 12, and sugar added)

I couldn't get home because of the storm that kept the roads covered with snow and ice.

I had some difficulty walking to the hotel and finally opted to walk in the road in the tire tracks to make the trek to the hotel easier.

I am gathering up my "stuff" and will head to the restaurant where the car is buried and survey the situation to see if I can get out of here. It doesn't look like it will happen now but it is early and perhaps the Sun will come out and melt the snow. "right"!

These last two images are actually two separate pictures but the look remarkably similar? Hmmmmmmm!

This might not be as exciting a blog as dancing elves but it has some of the elements to be a "made for TV movie", don't you think?

Thanksgiving 2008

I guess that I may have the only blog about a family Thanksgiving Dinner.

I just want to be sure that everyone in the world is as thankful for the good things in their lives as we are. Stop for a moment and suck in all the good from your family and friends. Hold it for a while and never forget.

Natalie Cooks Pears!

Although Steve forgot the carving knife he was able to use an ordinary knife to do a good job on the big bird.

We had a twelve people here this year. Not a big group but a nice sized dinner gathering. Our thanksgiving dinner was missing a few important people this year. Teri, Shawn, Cole, Jennifer, Brenden, Jordan, Autumn, Mathew, Pauls' Mom and Dad, Jeremy and Karen, Hermoine, Carl, Ron, Janet, Gina and were not here and we missed them. It was a good group however and we had about the same amount of food so without the extra people there was more to share.

We were able to keep Rosy awake and even if you think she is falling asleep here she isn't. She has just completed her third serving and is contemplating her next move. "Should I go for fourth, or should I stop now?"

This is a photo out of sequence. I put it here without checking but it's OK with me.

I only had a very small piece of turkey and a few mashed potatoes with gravy. I never really got too much to eat because I was at the end of the table where the food wasn't. Everyone else was so busy feeding their faces I was completely forgotten, ignored and practically cast aside for the turkey, ham, potatoes, vegtables and all the othe good stuff. Later after dinner I was able to find a small and somewhat insignificant piece of Pumpkin pie. It was probably a piece that fell off someones plate and was mostly crust but I topped it with whipped cream and ate it.

So I did get a little pie, just a very little, small couple of bites, wee thing it was.

Later while everyone watched movies and slept, probably because of all the food they had eaten. I was able to wash all the dishes, pots and pans and clean up the entire kitchen, dining room and living room. It was during the cleaning that I forged for left over food that wasn't eaten by everyone else. You probably notice that my picture isn't here. That is because I am to busy cleaning and too weak from lack of food to force my way in. It's fine with me about this no picture situation too as I can make a Blog entry anytime I want and maybe just maybe I'll do one with pictures just of me.

Later in the evening we hung out and talked and just enjoyed the end of a nice day. The weather was good, the meal was good, the people gathered here were especially good.

I hope each of you had a good day as well. We miss all of you and our thoughts are of you.

I was a fast grower and a fast learner, I am off to my new job.

I've always worked to support myself.

I moved out from my parents home sometime oh let's say around the middle to late part of sometime early in 1945 or 1946, I don't remember.

My job involved some traveling so it was a small problem keeping diapers and formula but somehow I managed.

I was a pretty good sales kid and won a trip to Disneyland. All expenses paid which was good since I don't and didn't carry a wallet and at that young age I wasn't using a purse yet.

I think you'll admit I was quite the stunning figure at that young age. What 'm trying to find out is what happened? When did all this change occur. I don't look anything like I used too??

My Illness

Well, I think one of the things someone with cancer can do is to enjoy the humor of the whole situation. Although there are times when, let just say a cancer person may not be feeling as good as he or she would like, and that can be frequent, we cancer people can laugh at things related to our own particular illness.

From time to time I go to the hospital or to the doctor or even to a clinic for tests and for testing and for probing and for samples of various fluids or skin or some other body part. Fascinating as it may seem to be there is some intrusion and some aggravation associated with the visits to the Doctor.

These pictures show some of the humor (in my opinion) of one kind of testing.

I decided to have some fun.

I was going to be observed during my nights sleep and my sleeping was being monitored as I slept with the attachments of several probes and wires and whatever those things are called.

Once I got past the horrible pain and intense electrical shocks I think I actually felt pretty good. I was only kidding about the electrical shocks and also the pain. Actually the only pain would have been the removal of the tape. That part really made me cringe. There is something about removing tape the gives me the willies.

So what I did was to photograph a picture of my eyes. I cut the picture of each eye to match the rim of a pair of glasses. I attached the picture on the inside of the glasses so that it looked like my eyes were open. These glasses I wore during the night when I was supposed to be sleeping. The camera's in the room, on the ceiling, would be aimed on me during the night so that the technician could monitor what was going on with me during the night while I was suppose to be asleep.

I thought it was pretty funny! I thought it might brighten the technicians evening, after all he needs to stay awake all night watching two or three people sleep! I thought we might all get a good laugh.

Hey, They will be talking about this for some time I think!

Why do we have to take sickness so seriously. I got what I got and it isn't going to get me down.

I just need to be sure not to loose my sense of humor and you shouldn't loose yours either.

OK That's it.

THE TRIP TO JAMAICA

Well Here we are in Sandals Grande, Ocho Rios, Jamaica "Mon".

It is very nice here and the people we have met

and I sure will continue to meet will be terrific.

Friday night Fun

A few days ago Jerry, Paul, and I skipped out on the State Republican Convention.
We had been running late that evening and even though intended to go - didn't feel
like it so we decided to open a BIG bottle of 1991 Caymus Special Select Cabernet
Sauvignon and compare it to a 2003.

I won't go into all of the flavor profiles or specific experiences but I will

tell you they were good!!!!That's all you need to know. We are professional

wine drinkers so we didn't invite anyone else who might have had an

opinion of their own. We don't need no other opinions!

Jerry took care to open this bottle and we sniffed the small amount of air and aroma from the 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon.

It had a great "nose" and even better taste. We begin our tasting

Friday evening around 8:30 PM with several different cheese and olive

and bread platters. I think we did eat some of the food.

We actually started with a nice bottle of 337 Cabernet to get our "mouths"

ready. Then we drank the BIG bottle of Caymus, then the 2003 Caymus

and finished with another bottle of the 337. (The second bottle of 337 didn't

have the same quality as I remember that it had when we started, can you imagine?)

We finished the evening by signing the bottle and I will display it at

the restaurant so everyone who sees it will wonder why they weren't

there with us to enjoy it with us. (Perhaps they didn't get the memo?)

Our next Tasting should really be a good one. There is a list of five wines

I think it is time to open. But I really don't have the time to go into it

right now. Keep an eye out for the "memo".

The summer is here and we have had some pretty nice weather. It has been hot some of the days reaching more than 80's. Actually I prefer hot to cold.

Rosy and I went to the Portland waterfront for fourth of July fireworks display. We had something to eat then went to the boat for the fireworks. It was fun.

Weston, Phil's son ( who has a slight "shinner" from a left cross I got him pretty good he's small but I'm fast) learned to use my camera so most of the pictures are those he took.

You probably saw fireworks where you live and now you can see some we enjoyed here in good old Portland Oregon Also you see our waitress who was very nice. There are more people but I didn't include them here as they don't visit my blog..

Natalie and Samantha Graduation and birthday party

We had a Party for Natalie and Samantha. Last saturday Samantha graduated from High School and this past Saturday Natalie Graduated and also celebrated her birthday.

We had about 40 of everyone's friends over, got a chef and bartender and had ourselves a little party.

Sorry none of you out of state people were able to make it. But of course none of you knew so it makes perfect sense that you weren't here. Each of you were missed and we thought about you often, really we did. We did think of you, many times by many people, we did.

When you see the improvement I have had with my Grandfather's help you might think it isn't possible to acheive these kinds of improvements in such a short time.

Well you can go back and see the original picture posted then compare it to how I look after his special workouts.

One might think there is trickery or some other hanky panky going on here. One might say it's a sham, some kind of miss-direction, or there are those who might think it isn't actually me.

Check out the tattoo! That should make it perfectly clear that it's me.

The time spent working out with my grandfather and eating the special diet, drinking the right beverages have really paid off, wouldn't you say.

Last night Rosy and I attended a nice little party that was to help raise money for breast cancer. The dress code was to include something pink. Only pink wine, pink champagne and pink beverages were served.The food was very good and we tried everything. The party was held at a Peruvian restaurant and the food was an assortment of items one would find in Peru. Very good!

There were door prizes, we won nothing. There was a special drawing for a very expensive assortment of excellent and rare wine, we didn't win. There was special individual table drawings for nice little gifts like glassware, movie tickets etc, we won nothing.Typically we win nothing anyway so it wasn't so disappointing at this affair.We were the best dressed and best looking so that is good enough for me.

But of course Rosy always makes me look good when we are arm in arm.

These days I tend to sit down a lot but this occasion only found me sitting to eat.Our friends are: Dan and Phil, and Mike is the owner of the wine shop across the street form the restaurant.

Hello All,

Rosy and I went to Black Butte Ranch for the weekend. We spent a relaxing weekend with some friends, walked, Bicycle, eat, drink wine, smoke cigars, eat, jacuzzi, eat, wine, cigars, talk, walk around the town of Sisters, eat, wine etc, etc.

So what I will do is put a couple of pictures here for you to see. Nothing to exciting but what the heck maybe you'll recognize someone or someplace.

While I was there I received a text message from Jordan. I sent an answer but I'm not sure if he received it.

Also while I was in the town of Sisters, I looked for a can-opener for Teri and Shawn. I didn't find one I liked. Sorry Teri, continue to buy food in plastic containers until I find a can-opener suitable for you. (in my opinion)

As you can see some of the pictures are actual and some contrived. The deer picture is just before we ate him. Well we didn't really but we could have if we wanted too. We had a nice time. If you are wondering where this place is you' have to google it to get the exact placement on the map. It is near Bend Oregon somewhere toward the middle of the state. It was about 3 hours from home.

We were with Kevin and Sherrie, and Monte and Tattiana.

Samantha's Prom

So,................. Samantha went to the Senior Prom last night.

The entire day saturday was an experience as Rosy and her sister Natalie made the attempt to do Hair, Make-up, Shoes, Bag and Dress come-together in such a way the Samantha would be happy and satisfied.

I received a call from Rosy early in the day that they had taken over the house with the project. By the way Samantha is one of those "young ladies" who claims to know what is best for her and the rest of us as well.

Somehow toward the time necessary for Samantha to leave things got to where Samantha could go into her own bathroom and make herself look the way she wanted to look.

Actually Natalie did an excellent job with the hair and when I got home she (Natalie) seemed to be OK, a little stressed maybe, but she was doing just fine.

These pictures are some we took just before Samantha put a coat on top of her head and ran to the car. Why the coat? It was raining slightly.

Perhaps the "kids" took pictures at the "Prom". perhaps not. It would be interesting to see the before and after pictures. I probably will never see the comparison.

By the way it's 2:30PM Sunday and we haven't heard from Samantha. maybe she's "runned-off" with her boy-friend. Not!!!!!!!! Can you see Natalie's New Shoes? and New Shirt? and Spiffy New Pants?

Another Day In The Life

Sometimes when we move along through time something happens that makes a difference. Did you ever notice that?
Today I received a call from my cousin Jeannie. Now for those of you who don't know, Jeannie and I spent some quality time together back in the 60's. Since then we haven't had much contact or time together. Actually, maybe twice, but I'm not so sure. Things just happen and we both spent time doing whatever we did?
Jeannie decided on a Lark to call me and we had a pretty terrific time on the phone for several minutes. It may not have been long enough but we but promised each other that we would do better about staying in touch. Right Jeannie?
It is good to talk with and get together with all family. The Internet makes it easy.
I hope to find those people in my family who have slipped away and strike up some kind of conversations or communications. I am sure there are many lives I am connected with that exist and I feel that the connections would be beneficial to us all.

Christmas is always my favorite time of year. I love Santa Clause.

Joan, this is the house in Sherman Oaks and as you can see we were "with it" as far as Christmas Trees go. What the perfect use for aluminum. Way Cool. I remember it well, actually I wished I had that tree today.
Jennifer you were just a twinkle in my eye at this point in time. Teri was our special daughter who became My Favorite Oldest Daughter and you became My Favorite Youngest Daughter around 1972. But of course you know that!
I remember the dress. Whoa! How special. I will be looking thru the slides and as time permits will copy and print some that might suprise and amaze you. Especially YOU!

I am not sure what you might or might not believe about visitors from outer space but I think I actually saw one, it was space ship. I wish I hadn't been so shaken because I didn't do much except get this little video. Should anyone else see it send an e-mail telling of your experience.

These historic pictures were found in a old slide carousel, Kodak. So I scanned them and found a few I thought some of those who look at this thing might enjoy seeing.

Do I have any free time. Not much.

It has been my style most of my life to work and keep many things on my plate. I've not been around my family much. Kinda dumb as I look back.

We did many things, but, I could have made much more time available for my kids.........

I miss seeing my kids. It is especially nice to talk to them, and we do that often. Phone conversations mostly. They are both very very old. Their ages add up to more than 70 years.

Take a little advise from me. Spend as much time with your kids as you can. It's hard sometimes but once they are on their own, well...They are on their own.

My grandchildren are pretty special and I know their parents (My kids) have learned from the experiences with me, what the right thing to do will be. (Right Teri & Jennifer)

Sometimes I think of Sue and those early years, we had a good family most of the time. I have some good memories.

I am a blessed man in many ways.

So this month is just about at an end. I'm now 1/12 into the new year, Where does the time go?

I will add a couple of the pictures which were taken this past holiday season.

It is just my way of keeping you thrilled, amused, and on the edge of your seat.

Today I discovered a blog site owned and operated by my daughter and her husband, Teri & Shawn.

There on the blog was a picture of their new baby.

He has struggled through the first weeks of life but is doing it with style.

Since I put him on a special White-Family-Workout he is doing even better.
